Tannjew Posted July 4, 2003 Report Share Posted July 4, 2003 Wie im Newsletter regelmä?ig erwähnt wird ist ja (schon seit längerem) ein CoC Spiel in Mache. Auf der E3 war es vertreten, hat von einer Spieleseite einen Award erhalten, und den folgenden Text dazu habe ich heute durch Zufall gefunden. Ich kann auf jeden Fall kaum noch abwarten, erhoffe mir so ein Gruselabenteuer wie bei Clive Barkers Undying: It's freaky, it's scary and it was simply amazing to see at E3. Call of Cthulhu, based on H.P. Lovecraft's written works of the same name, was a game that took us completely by surprise and left us talking about it for days. Call of Cthulhu is a mix of horror, investigation, puzzle solving, exploration and combat as you are faced with the seemingly impossible task of battling evil incarnate. While Call of Cthulhu at first blush appears to be your standard first-person shooter, you'll quickly discover it's a gothic nightmare disguised as a detective story. There's an "edge of insanity" feel that is deepened by the insanity effect, which appears whenever your character is frightened or in a dangerous situation. To simulate this fight-or-flight response to danger, the screen blurs, time distorts and the audio goes all wonky on you as you try to gather your bearings and save your skin. The insanity effect is really something unique to a first-person title, and it forces you to play far more carefully than you would in any other game in the genre. Call of Cthulhu is one of those games that's bound to scare the heck out of you while compelling you to finish one more level and solve one more mystery.
