Da zumindest ICH nicht wusste, dass es ein von Einheimischen geschriebenes Quellenbuch zu Ungarn gibt und dass darin ein Zwergenreich vorkommt dachte ich mir ich linke und poste das mal hier. Wird für andere ein alter Hut sein, aber, welll... take it or leave it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Shadowrun/comments/l0g1o1/my_copy_of_shadowhungary_an_expansion_made_to/gjvmbuj?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 https://i.redd.it/k4c3jf0e79c61.jpg "So the country is called Baconia (no relation to bacon), named after the Hungarian mountain range of Bakony, and officially called the Dwarven Kingdom of Baconia (Hungarian: Bakonyi Törp Királyság). It's a roughly cigar-shaped country stretching diagonally from the south-central border region of Slovakia down to Lake Balaton in central Hungary. The ostensible capital is Tatabánya, your typical Cold War-era mining city located inn a valley between two low-mountain ranges, though the real capital is Bakonymag, a largely vertical city that stretches far below ground and built around the old mines of Tatabánya. It borders Slovakia to the north, the draconic state of Dor Nathair (I call it Tír Nathair) to the west, and the remains of the failed state of Hungary in every other direction. The capital of Bakonymag extends deep into the Earth and houses most of the rulership and administrative class of the country, along with much of its idealistic dwarven revivalists and most of Tatabánya's former dwarven population. It's maintained by an extensive, cutting-edge ventilation system, whose surface apertures are guarded by a dedicated, non-dwarven taskforce dominated by elves (as most dwarves moved to subterranean settlements). Except for the elves and members of said taskforce, most non-dwarves are essentially second-class citizens. Access to country in general and Bakonymag in particular is extremely limited, with foreigners only let in for either strictly supervised pass-throughs or tourist trips. Tourism is only allowed on strict routes showing an idealized version of the country, much like North Korea, and charges exorbitant sums for tourist visas. The economy is dominated by the state-controlled enterprise, BÁNYA (translation: MINE; acronym for "Bakonyi Ásvány- és Nyersanyagtermelő Alapítvány", or "Baconian Foundation for the Cultivation of Minerals and Raw Materials"), both in terms of activity, revenue and employment. BÁNYA was born out of the research project that discovered a way to "grow" orichalcum, or rather, create the perfect environment to engender its growth. This requires a low-tech, low-weapon environment with a positive astral environment. As such the lower reaches of subterranean settlements, where it is grown and mined, are progressively more low-tech in character. In Bakonymag, where activity is the heaviest, electronics and lethal weaponry are banned beyond a certain level, and all mining is performed by hand or strictly mechanical means. If you ever wanted a more fantasyesque or streampunk setting in SR, this be it. It also means that any security forces in underground settlements will be using strictly non-lethal weaponry, so no firearms or even blades. The remainder of the economy thrives off of leasing territory to corporate and foreign interests, who construct well-protected and hidden research complexes with the mountains of the Vértes mountain range, enjoying the Baconian government's complete disregard for non-dwarven metahuman rights, other than those born of pragmatic need, that is. Saeder-Krupp has secured an lucrative deal with the government according to which they are the exclusive buyer and distributor of Baconian orichalcum abroad, letting both of them rake in ludicrous profits. The rest of the above-ground economy is focused on agriculture and town and city services. The shadow scene is very limited, and also difficult to get into for anybody who's not a dwarf or dwarven metavariant. Much like in Halferville, every underground settlement is built with only dwarves in mind, so larger metatypes will stick out like a sore thumb. What shadowbiz there is centers around smuggling, mostly monopolized by a network of Austrian and Hungarian orcs, but still doable. There's plenty of work to raid cargo routes running along the extraterritorial Central European Highway (owned by a corp of the same name, the CÉH (Company), but both national and megacorporate security make that a very risky business. Baconian royalty is another major target, as monarch get assassinated and replaced with such regularity and fervour that it puts classic D&D drows to shame. Case in point, the longest ruling monarch's reign lasted only seven years. Several nobles/socialites/bigwigs/whatever want think they're seeing the next future king every time they walk past a mirror, and aim to usher in that reign sooner rather than later. Oh, and every monarch likes to title themselves after LotR dwarves, so you'll see a lot of cases like Balin IV, Thorin VIII, Gimli III etc."
