Del Toros Verfilungspläne gehen wohl endlich in die hei?e Phase:

 

For it seems that after the great man finishes his current pet project, the currently-shooting Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, heÆll move onto another pet project: his long-awaited adaptation of H.P. LovecraftÆs At The Mountains Of Madness.

 

Madness, in which an Antartic expedition stumbles upon a mountain range taller than the Himalayas that contains an indescribable and ancient evil, has been on del ToroÆs to-do list (pinned up on his fridge) for ages. In fact, location scouting for Madness had already taken place in Romania before Hellboy 2 was greenlit; if that hadnÆt happened, itÆs highly likely that del Toro would have been shooting it right now.

 

A huge Lovecraft fan, del Toro had been previously unable to find a studio willing to make At The Mountains Of Madness. Perhaps they were scared by the superficial similarity to John CarpenterÆs The Thing (although, of course, LovecraftÆs tale predates that by almost seventy years), but now Universal and producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford have given del Toro their backing, it looks like this will be his next movie, ahead of his Tarzan reboot and another secret project that Empire has learned of, but canÆt reveal just yet. Guillermo del Toro verfilmt Lovecrafts "Berge des Wahnsinns"

 

Guillermo del Toro ("Mimic", "Blade II", "Hellboy", "Pans Labyrinth") wird sich, nachdem die Arbeiten an "Hellboy 2" beendet sind, als nächstes dem Projekt "At the Mountains of Madness" zuwenden.

"At the Mountains of Madness" basiert auf der gleichnamigen Novelle H. P. Lovecrafts, die erstmals 1936 im "Astounding"-Magazin erschien. Erzählt

werden die Erlebnisse eines Wissenschaftlers der Miskatonic-Universität in der Antarktis.

Universal Pictures übernimmt den Vertrieb, AngryFilms die Produktion.

Ferner wurde bekannt, dass an dem "Tarzan"-Projekt für Warner Bros. Pictures weitergearbeitet wird, es existiert aber noch kein Drehbuch.

der streifen ist ein kriegsfilm!

 

also wenn man alle kriegshandlungen in dem film zusammenzaehlt, wo tatsaechlich feindkontakt gibt

und es auch mal scheppert ist das weit unter 1 min

film. das umfeld deklarieren den film noch lange nicht zu einem kriegsfilm.

 

 

mountains of madness, nun ich bin wirklich gespannt ob wir den eines tages mal zu gesicht bekommen und nicht mit langen gesichtern aus dem kino laufen und den regieseur verfluchen.

Ansichtssache. Für mich hat PL auch mehr vom Kriegsfilm als von anderen Genres.

Hm ja... zu einem Krieg gehört mehr als nur Soldaten an der Front. Auch Undercover-Operationen, Guerillias u.ä. jenseits der Front gehören dazu. Ob Kriegsfilm oder nicht, ist da sicherlich eine Definitionsfrage. Und Hauptthema bei PL sind ja doch mehr oder weniger die Greuel des Krieges und wie man sie verarbeitet.

 

Aber BTT: Ich drücke Guerilliero... äh Guillermo die Daumen.

Der ja nicht an der Front spielt und Undercover-Operationen und Guerilla beinhaltet. Aber gut, lassen wir es dabei, es ist Definitionssache.

 

Bleiben wir beim Thema MoM: Ich bin nach PL nicht mehr voller Vorfreude, sondern nur noch gespannt auf MoM von del Toro.

So wie es klingt, ist es völlig unklar, ob und wann Grünes Licht kommen wird. Da er es gro? und episch inszenieren will (was wohl auch sein muss, das ist ja kein Kammerspiel), braucht's halt ein gut gepolstertes Budget, und das scheint wohl noch ne Hürde zu sein.

Das Neueste dazu dürfte ein Variety-Artikel zum Studio Universal gewesen sein, den man auch hier im Netz findet. Der ist vom 28. 2. und geht auch auch das Thema kurz ein.

The studio gave him a first-look deal, picked up a sequel to "Hellboy" with a budget of more than $80 million, and even bought the rights to his dream project, the H.P. Lovecraft epic, "At the Mountains of Madness." But U brass was stunned to suddenly see Del Toro emerge as the likely director of the next two "Hobbit" movies for New Line and MGM. That would lock him down for four straight years in New Zealand. Langley acknowledges, "We're in discussions with how to rectify that with Guillermo."

Tja, wenn man dieser Meldung von imdb.com glauben darf, dann wird es auf absehbare Zeit nichts mit Del Toro und den "Mountains of Madness"

 

Del Toro Tied To Universal Until 2017

 

Fantasy horror filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro has projects lined up until 2017, after signing a longterm deal with movie studio Universal.

 

The Mexican director, who is currently working on Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit, has committed his Hollywood future to the studio giant, tying him to Universal until he turns 53.

 

Del Toro will be busy writing and shooting The Hobbit until 2012, but once that movie wraps, he will take the helm for the first of four new films for Universal bosses.

 

The movies are all film adaptations of books, including big-screen versions of novels Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, and Dan Simmons' upcoming tome, Drood, about Charles Dickens' final days.

 

Del Toro is also due to serve as producer for several of Universal's planned projects, such as Hater and Crimson Peak, reports trade paper Variety.

The fourth project is an adaptation of "Drood," a Dan Simmons novel acquired by U that will be published in February by Little, Brown.

 

Of course, del Toro's first priority is New Line and MGM's "The Hobbit," to which he has committed the next five years. He has begun writing "Hobbit" with Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, collaborating via video conferencing and trips to New Zealand every three weeks.

 

While it's difficult, if not impossible, to plan projects five years into the future, at this point U execs think "Drood" is the most likely to be del Toro's first post-"Hobbit" directing vehicle.

 

In addition to the four pics, the studio still has its sights set on del Toro's pet project, an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness."
